About Meacham
Meacham is a Umatilla County CDP near the summit of the Blue Mountains, where an Oregon Trail stopping place became a railroad town. The Meacham brothers established a toll road and supply station in 1862; the railroad arrived in the 1880s, and the Meacham Hotel followed in 1899. The hotel served Union Pacific passengers, engineers, and construction foremen, while soldiers guarded the nearby railroad during World War I. Meacham's townsite remains legible through the linked histories of trail travel, rail construction, and mountain transit.
