Mead, OK

Mead sits along U.S. Highway 70 in Bryan County, only about six miles west of Durant. The community began in the late nineteenth century as a settlement called Double Springs before shifting a bit north to meet the incoming railroad. Today, it is a quiet, spread-out town where life moves at a relaxed pace, surrounded by open pasture and classic southern Oklahoma countryside.

For newcomers, the biggest draw is the location. Lake Texoma is right down the road, which makes fishing, boating, and lakeside weekends part of daily life. Since Mead is mostly residential and rural, residents head into Durant for groceries, restaurants, healthcare, and schools, giving you easy access to city conveniences while keeping your home base calm and uncrowded.
