Meadowview, VA

Meadowview is a Washington County CDP in the Virginia Highlands, part of the Tri-Cities region near Bristol and Kingsport. The community was once paired with nearby Emory in a single census listing, and the name has been linked to Meadow Mountain; older references used “Meadow View” until the 1930s. Native American trails passed through the surrounding country before the present road network took shape. Meadowview’s setting is rural, but it sits inside a regional corridor that connects southwest Virginia with northeast Tennessee.

The most distinctive local address is the American Chestnut Foundation’s Meadowview Research Farms. The farms cover more than 150 acres with orchards, laboratories, greenhouses, and thousands of trees being bred and tested for resistance to chestnut blight; the work began here in 1989 and still draws staff, volunteers, and school groups. Harvest Table and its farm-to-table food operation give downtown Meadowview another recognizable point of connection. The local scoop is that a small Appalachian community is also a working tree-breeding campus, with the chestnut restoration project reaching far beyond county lines.
