Meansville, GA

Meansville is a small Pike County city with roots reaching back to the early 1800s. The community was chartered in 1898 and incorporated as a town in 1913; local tradition connects its name with homesteader John Means. The 2020 population was 266. Its past includes the businesses that once made a rural crossroads function: cotton warehouses and a gin, a bank, a depot, a hotel, a school, a millinery shop, a service station, and other small enterprises tied to farming and travel.

Many of those businesses are gone, but Meansville still maintains the pieces that keep a small town working. Churches, a volunteer fire department, and a town water system remain part of the local structure, while Pike County schools serve students from pre-kindergarten through high school.
