About Medical Lake

Medical Lake is a relaxed, small community located about fifteen miles west of Spokane. Home to around 5,000 residents, it offers a peaceful pace surrounded by water, with Medical Lake, West Medical Lake, Silver Lake, and Clear Lake all close at hand. Many military families settle here because of the quick commute to neighboring Fairchild Air Force Base, while others are drawn to the local trails, swimming spots, and easy access into Spokane for work and dining.

The town earned its name in the 1800s from the mineral-rich waters that were believed to have medicinal qualities, which briefly made the lakeshore a popular spa resort. Over the years, the area transitioned into a steady residential community anchored by Eastern State Hospital and the air base. Residents gather every June for the annual Founders Day celebration, and the surrounding lakes continue to serve as the main backdrop for weekend fishing, kayaking, and family outings.
