Medina, TX

Medina is a Bandera County community at the junction of State Highway 16 and Farm Road 337, about 12 miles northwest of Bandera. A sawmill was operating here by 1865, and the post office dates to 1880; by the late 1880s the settlement had a cotton gin, corn mill, hotel, bank, churches, and general stores. Stock raising shaped the surrounding country for decades. Apple farming arrived in the 1980s, and the Texas Department of Agriculture named Medina the Apple Capital of Texas in 1989 after local orchards took hold. It is a small regional crossroads with an unusually specific orchard history.
