About Medora

Medora is a town in Carr Township, Jackson County, Indiana, United States. The 2020 census counted 635 residents. Medora was laid out in 1853 by West Lee Wright in the southeast corner of a square mile of land which he owned. Wright named the town Medora for the musical notes & dubbed it "Harmony", though it is commonly mispronounced in the most unharmonious way today. Medora has a public library, a branch of the Jackson County Public Library. Medora's local map joins its older history to the places and landscapes that still shape the town today, all within the wider Indiana setting. The local scoop is how Medora's history still shows up in the places people visit, work, learn, and meet.
