About Mekoryuk

Mekoryuk is a city on Nunivak Island in the Bethel Census Area, Alaska, situated at the mouth of Shoal Bay on the Bering Sea. Home to approximately two hundred residents, the island has been inhabited for two thousand years by the Nuniwarmiut, or Nunivak Cup'ig people. The Lower Kuskokwim School District operates the local Nuniwarmiut School, supporting a traditional lifestyle centered on reindeer herding, fishing, and Cup'ig culture.
