Melbourne Village, FL

Melbourne Village is a small incorporated town in Brevard County, sitting between West Melbourne and Melbourne. Three women from Dayton, Virginia Wood, Elizabeth Nutting, and Margaret Hutchinson, came to the area in 1947 after World War II with the idea of building a community. The town grew from that postwar experiment and remains Brevard's smallest incorporated municipality. Its local map is mostly town roads, small ponds, and houses set among native oaks and pines, with the Town Center at 555 Hammock Road. The place's most recognizable nearby landmark is Erna Nixon Park, a 54-acre county park named for a Melbourne Village naturalist. Its elevated boardwalk runs through a Florida hammock, with a nature center and native plants and animals along the route. Melbourne Village carries a tiny-town address inside the larger Melbourne area, but the Dayton origins, Hammock Road town center, and Erna Nixon Park give it a story of its own.
