Mentasta Lake, AK

Mentasta Lake is a small Upper Ahtna village on the north shore of the lake, tucked about six miles off the Tok Cutoff near Mentasta Pass. Life here is quiet and closely connected to the surrounding land and water. Residents spend the seasons fishing for salmon and whitefish, hunting moose, and picking berries throughout the valleys. Local students attend the K-12 Mentasta Lake Katie John School right in the village. Because it connects directly to the highway system, Mentasta Lake combines the feel of a remote Alaskan lakeside settlement with year-round road access to nearby interior towns.
