Merriam, IN

Merriam is a quiet community in Noble County, Indiana, set among the open farmland of Noble Township. Founded in the mid-19th century as a rural crossroads, the settlement originally grew around a church, a general store, and local trades serving neighboring farm families. Because Indiana already had a town named Noblesville, the area adopted the name Merriam when its first post office opened in 1853, quickly becoming a welcoming hub for the surrounding countryside.

Through the late 1800s, the village centered around timber milling and small businesses, eventually adding a two-story hall for weekend dances and community gatherings. As commercial activity shifted over the years, Merriam settled into a peaceful residential enclave surrounded by scenic fields. Today, it offers a relaxed country lifestyle with plenty of space, while keeping residents just a short drive from nearby lakes, outdoor recreation, and larger towns for everyday necessities.
