About Mesquite

Mesquite is a city in the U.S. state of Texas, located in Dallas County with portions extending into Kaufman County. The 2020 census counted 150,108 residents. Mesquite is positioned at the crossroads of four major highways, making locations such as downtown Dallas, Lake Ray Hubbard, Dallas Love Field, and DFW International Airport accessible. In 2016, Mesquite received a Playful City USA designation for the fourth year in a row. In 2016, the Mesquite Public Library System was presented with a 2016 Achievement of Library Excellence Award by the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association.

Of the 548 public library systems in Texas, the Mesquite Public Library was one of only 43 libraries to earn this prestigious honor. The city houses 76 parks and four recreation centers. The short version is that Mesquite carries an earlier story into the places people know and use now. That is the local read on Mesquite: its past remains attached to the places people use now.
