Mesquite is officially recognized as the Rodeo Capital of Texas, and that heritage is still an active part of local life. Every summer, the Mesquite Championship Rodeo fills the arena on Saturday nights with bull riding, barrel racing, and crowds from across the region. The tradition dates back to 1946 and carries over into the community each spring with the annual Rodeo Parade rolling right through downtown. The town originally took root as a railroad stop in the 1870s, and that historic center has become a favorite local hangout. The Front Street Station project transformed the old rail district into a lively gathering spot featuring outdoor seating, food truck parking, public art, and a performance pavilion. From spring through late fall, residents head downtown on Saturday mornings for the local farmers market and live music. Surrounding the central district, major highways like Interstate 30, Interstate 635, and U.S. 80 make commuting into downtown Dallas or traveling around the Metroplex quick and straightforward.

Mesquite also offers a solid local economy with plenty of jobs in distribution, manufacturing, and healthcare. Major employers including FedEx, UPS, PepsiCo, and Ashley Furniture maintain substantial operations along the southern Interstate 20 corridor, supported by the city's own regional airport. For shopping and everyday errands, the area around Town East Mall serves as the primary retail hub on the north side of town, packed with department stores, big-box retailers, and popular restaurants.

Cultural events and convenient transit options help make daily living comfortable. The Mesquite Arts Center serves as the cultural anchor, hosting community theater productions, gallery exhibits, and free courtyard concerts during the warmer months. Getting around without driving everywhere is simple thanks to STARNow, an affordable on-demand rideshare service connecting neighborhoods to shopping centers, medical facilities, and the Dallas College Eastfield Campus. For trips into Dallas, weekday shuttle routes link directly to the DART Green Line, giving commuters an easy connection to the regional rail system.
