Midland, CO

Midland is a census-designated place and unincorporated community in Teller County, part of the Colorado Springs metropolitan area. The 2020 census counted 182 residents. It lies in the high-country corridor between Divide and Cripple Creek, with the Divide post office serving the area. The setting is a mountain settlement along the routes that climb toward the old mining district, where distance and elevation matter as much as municipal boundaries. Midland is split between Cripple Creek-Victor School District RE-1 and Woodland Park School District RE-2, reflecting its spread across the county.

Railroad history gives the place its sharpest hook. The Midland Terminal Railway kept a station here midway between Divide and Cripple Creek, linking the gold-mining district to the larger rail network and moving passengers, equipment, and ore. The trains are gone, but the name preserves that link to the Cripple Creek boom and the rail line that made the mountain route practical. Today Midland is a small residential pocket in the Colorado foothills, with Woodland Park in its orbit and Cripple Creek-Victor's mining country close by. Its character comes from the railway history, the two school districts, and the big landscape surrounding a few hundred homes.
