Midlothian, TX

Midlothian, 25 miles southwest of Dallas, is the center of North Texas’s cement industry, with three cement plants and a steel mill. The northwestern Ellis County city recorded 35,125 residents in 2020. The area’s earliest inhabitants were Tonkawa people, while Anadarko, Bidai, Kickapoo, and Waco groups also hunted there; during the Republic of Texas era, it formed part of the Peters Colony land-grant territory. Cotton and cattle were Midlothian’s two leading business sectors before the Great Depression. At Navarro College’s Midlothian campus, a partnership with Tarleton State University, Texas A&M University–Commerce, and the University of North Texas at Dallas enables students to complete bachelor’s and graduate programs.
