Midwest City, OK

Midwest City was incorporated in 1943 after developer W. P. "Bill" Atkinson planned a community to house and serve workers at the new Midwest Air Depot, now Tinker Air Force Base. That founding purpose remains economically important. In 2026, Tinker's official jobs page described more than 25,000 military and civilian personnel at the installation, making it Oklahoma's largest single-site employer. Rose State College adds a second institution with a daily presence beyond its campus: the public two-year college reports serving more than 13,000 students each year, offers more than 60 degree and skilled-occupation programs, and runs workforce training, lifelong-learning classes, and Kids College. Recreation is spread across two municipal golf courses, Reno Swim and Slide, youth and adult sports at the Midwest City MAC, and Joe B. Barnes Regional Park.

Midwest City's July 2025 population estimate was 58,799, close to the 58,409 people recorded in 2020. During 2020 through 2024, 58 percent of homes were owner-occupied; the median owner-occupied value was $164,500, median monthly owner costs with a mortgage were $1,360, and median gross rent was $1,091. Median household income was $57,520, poverty was 17 percent, and workers averaged about 23 minutes of travel to work. The city also recorded 5,091 veterans during that period. Barnes Regional Park hosted the city's 2026 Tribute to Liberty and is the route for the December Holiday Lights Spectacular, a drive-through display with more than a million lights. Smaller seasonal gatherings use W. P. "Bill" Atkinson Park at Town Center Plaza, including spring's Covered in Color event and the fall Mid-America Street Fest.
