Mifflintown, PA

Mifflintown is the Juniata County seat, a borough built along the Juniata River and the old McClellan Ferry crossing. John Harris established the settlement on his 1774 plantation, and the borough was incorporated in 1833. The courthouse square and municipal offices give the town its county-seat role, while Routes 22 and 322 carry through traffic toward Lewistown, Harrisburg, and the river valley. It is a compact center where the county's government and everyday errands occupy the same few blocks.

Mifflintown's working map is split between government, school, and utility service. Juniata High School, Tuscarora Junior High, and Juniata Elementary are in town, tying the borough to the county school system. As of 2026, the Mifflintown Municipal Authority supplies water and sewer service to roughly 4,450 residents and businesses in Mifflintown and neighboring Mifflin, while borough offices operate from the Municipal Building on Cross Street. The river, courthouse, schools, and utility network meet in a small county seat serving a much larger rural hinterland.
