About Milford

Milford’s story starts with a ford, a mill, and a name change. Judge Aaron M. Perine platted the Kosciusko County town in 1836 in an area once called Pucker Huddle; Milford meant “mill-on-the-ford,” a nod to the crossing on Turkey Creek. A post office followed in 1837, then the Big Four and Baltimore & Ohio railroads brought a junction nearby. For a while, the Winona Interurban added electric trolley service through town, with passenger cars running until 1938 and freight continuing into 1952. Today, Milford’s Main Street still holds the post office and local businesses, while Turkey Creek and the old rail lines tell you why the town landed here in the first place.
