Milford, NJ

Milford is a Hunterdon County borough on the Delaware River, where Bridge Street crosses toward Upper Black Eddy, Pennsylvania. The 2020 census counted 1,166 residents. The river is the town's defining line and connection: Milford borders Alexandria and Holland townships on the New Jersey side, while the opposite bank is Bucks County. A wooden bridge opened here in 1842, giving local trade a direct route to the Delaware Canal. Much of the old center sits inside the Milford Historic District, where Bridge, Carpenter, Church, Spring Garden, Green, and Maple Streets hold the borough's older pattern. Milford Borough School District serves students through eighth grade, and the municipal center, riverfront, shops, restaurants, churches, and local roads keep activity concentrated around the historic core.

The bridge connection still matters for errands and regional movement, while the riverfront sets the backdrop for walking and small-business traffic. The borough's geography is easy to read: old streets rise from the river, Pennsylvania is across the water, and Hunterdon County roads fan out inland. Milford is a river crossing that became a village, and that original job remains visible in the street layout and in the way the two river towns face each other.
