Milford, UT

Milford is a Beaver County city in Utah’s Escalante Desert, set between the Mineral Mountains and the Star Range. The 2020 census counted 1,431 residents. Ranches were already in the area in the 1870s, but the town took shape after the San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad built a station here in 1880. The name combines “mill” and “ford,” and the railroad still runs through the center of town as part of Milford’s working landscape. State Route 21 connects Milford with Minersville and the Nevada side of the region, while Route 257 heads north toward Delta. Milford’s local lineup is more substantial than its population suggests: a hospital, library, airport, seasonal municipal pool, five-hole golf course, three lighted ball fields, a pavilion park, tennis court, and the Cody Wright Rodeo Arena.

The city also sits on the American Discovery Trail, with Minersville Reservoir and picnic areas east toward the Mineral Mountains. That mix gives Milford a distinct high-desert rhythm—rail freight, ranch and agricultural work, public facilities, and a calendar built around ball fields, the pool, and rodeo ground. It is the kind of place where the city’s practical services and its wide-open geography are always in the same frame.
