About Mill Creek East
Mill Creek East is a Census-defined community whose everyday addresses and service districts use several different names. It lies in unincorporated Snohomish County immediately southeast of the City of Mill Creek and has no incorporated government of its own. Postal addresses may say Bothell or Mill Creek, while county, school, library, and transit agencies each draw separate boundaries. The population rose from 15,709 in 2010 to 24,912 in 2020 within about 4.45 square miles, making growth an important part of the local story. A county plan assigned this urban-growth area residential densities, a village center, and an open-space overlay along Tambark Creek.
North Creek High School is the clearest institutional response to that growth. It opened in fall 2017 as enrollment increased in the northern part of Northshore School District. The campus covers over 60 acres and incorporates wetlands, geothermal heating and cooling, and solar generation. Its street address says Bothell, while Census geography places it in Mill Creek East. Nearby Tambark Creek Park repeats that overlap. Snohomish County and the City of Mill Creek jointly acquired the site in the 1990s, and the 40-acre county park opened in 2013 with sports fields, a playground, shelters, an off-leash area, paths, woods, and wetlands.
Silver Creek Park shows how county decisions affect local access. In August 2026 its recreation area remained closed indefinitely: flooding linked to beaver activity blocked trails, and the playground had been removed for safety while a new planning process began. Library service comes through Sno-Isle Libraries, whose district includes unincorporated Snohomish County. Community Transit's peak-only Route 901 uses the 35th Avenue corridor between Silver Firs and Lynnwood City Center, traveling west in the morning and east in the afternoon and connecting with the Swift Green and Orange lines. Mill Creek East's practical map takes shape through school campuses, county parks, a regional library district, and commute-hour transit. At Tambark Creek, a Bothell street address leads to a county park inside a Census community named for the neighboring city.
