About Millersburg
Millersburg is a Mercer County CDP in the township that bears its name. The Illinois State Archives lists it as the county seat from 1837 to 1847, a period when county government still followed the most accessible river-country settlements. The Edwards River runs through the township, and the Army Ford nearby preserves a connection to the Black Hawk War: local historical accounts place Abraham Lincoln’s 1832 militia route at that crossing. The 769,264-square-meter Census area remains a compact place whose identity is tied to early county government and river crossings.
