Millinocket, ME

Millinocket sits right on the edge of Maine's deep North Woods, making it the primary gateway to Mount Katahdin and Baxter State Park. Home to around 4,000 people, the town originally earned the nickname "the Magic City" when a massive paper mill sprang up out of the wilderness practically overnight at the turn of the twentieth century. While the paper industry drove its early growth, today the town serves as a practical jumping-off point for anyone exploring Katahdin Woods and Waters, paddling the West Branch of the Penobscot River, or heading out along the Golden Road.
