Millstone, NJ

With fewer than 500 residents, Millstone is one of the smallest and quietest boroughs in Somerset County. Tucked right along the Millstone River, the town began in the 1700s as the original county seat, even serving as a resting spot for George Washington after the Battle of Princeton. While the county seat eventually moved to Somerville, Millstone kept its historic character, and the community still feels like a peaceful colonial village surrounded by scenic waterways.

In the 1800s, the Delaware and Raritan Canal turned the riverfront into a busy trade hub for local farmers. Today, that waterway is part of a popular state park where residents enjoy walking, running, and biking along the tree-lined towpath.
