Milstead, GA

Milstead is a small, quiet community in Rockdale County, situated along the south bank of the Yellow River just north of Conyers. The town was founded in 1902 around a cotton mill built by the Milstead Manufacturing Company. Rows of worker cottages and neighborhood streets quickly grew around the mill, creating a classic Southern mill village that still defines the area today. With around 600 residents, it has stayed small, unincorporated, and distinctly residential.

The Yellow River and its wooded banks give Milstead a peaceful, laid-back atmosphere. Residents enjoy a calm neighborhood setting while staying just a short drive from the restaurants, shops, and services in downtown Conyers. Thanks to local preservation efforts, many of the original mill-era homes and streetscapes remain intact, giving the community a quiet, historic feel that stands out in Rockdale County.
