Milton CDP (Ulster County), NY

Milton is a hamlet and CDP on the west bank of the Hudson River in northeastern Marlborough, part of the Hudson Valley. Main Street and Route 9W sit above the river, while the West Shore rail line and Dock Road mark the descent toward the old landing. The setting is classic lower Hudson Valley: river views, orchards, wooded hills, and working farms around a compact main street.

Milton grew around river commerce, mills, and landings. A dock and mill were operating by the eighteenth century, and the waterfront later handled steamboats, farm produce, and local industry. The 1907 Milton railroad station still stands near the river and is being restored as a community gathering place. Marlboro Central School District serves the CDP, while fruit farms, farm stands, Main Street businesses, and the Hudson continue to shape local routines. Milton has the feel of a hamlet whose history is still visible in its roads, docks, station, and orchards. The river remains part of its backdrop.
