Mineral, VA

Mineral is a Louisa County town whose name came from the ground beneath it. Originally Tolersville, it adopted Mineral when it incorporated in 1902, during a mining boom that involved gold, iron, zinc, lead, and pyrite. County history records fifteen gold mines within two miles during the area's peak. The Mineral Historic District preserves the streets and buildings that grew around stores, churches, a school, and mine-related commerce. The 2020 census counted 474 residents, giving the historic core a small-town scale within the wider county setting.

The mines no longer define the town's working economy, yet their imprint remains part of the civic setting. Mineral's current comprehensive plan pairs preservation of the historic center with future growth, and the town's municipal pages carry council, permit, and public-notice information. Louisa County Public Schools connect local students to Louisa County Middle School and Louisa County High School. Mineral's present-day map therefore joins an old mining core to countywide education and town government.
