Minnesota Lake, MN

Minnesota Lake is a city in Faribault and Blue Earth counties, with 661 residents in the 2020 census. Most of the city lies in Faribault County, while a small portion crosses the county line into Blue Earth County. Minnesota State Highway 22 serves as the main route, and the nearby lake supplies the name that ties the two-county place together. The town's strongest civic landmark is the Kremer House Library and Museum at 317 Main Street, where local family files, photographs, and changing exhibits fill a 1902 Queen Anne home.

Minnesota Lake was platted in 1866 and named for the nearby lake. Peter Kremer arrived in the area in 1865, helped build a flour mill, stockyards, cooperative creamery, and bank, and served as mayor for 30 years. His wife, Millie Zabel Kremer, born in Prussian Germany, managed the family's property and business interests after Peter died in 1913. The Historical Society now uses their former home as a library and museum. Minnesota Lake is a southern Minnesota city whose name, county line, and best-known house all point back to the water and the people who built the first town businesses.
