About Minonk
Minonk is a Woodford County city laid out after the Illinois Central Railroad reached the area in 1854. Railroad engineer David A. Neal secured the site, and the original plat ran along the line; the Santa Fe's Pekin branch arrived in 1879, giving the town a second railroad crossing. Minonk also grew around lumber yards and coal mines, with the old industrial landscape still part of the local story. Minonk is a central Illinois railroad town whose coal-and-lumber past remains on the map.
