Misenheimer, NC

Misenheimer is a Stanly County village near Richfield whose history moved from rail stop and gold mine to education. In the late 1800s the place was called Gladstone, a stop on a spur serving Misenheimer Springs; the Barringer Gold Mine had opened nearby in 1825. The community was renamed Misenheimer in 1909, and the Mitchell Home School's arrival soon made education the lasting center of local work. The village incorporated in 2003.

Pfeiffer University's traditional undergraduate campus now occupies the heart of the village, with Gray Stone Day School's public charter middle and high school nearby. The Village Square serves residents, Pfeiffer students, and Gray Stone students, and the Falcon Trailhead links it to the Carolina Thread Trail. Food trucks, benches, paths, and a flagpole make the square a useful meeting point between campus and town. The university also brings concerts, lectures, athletics, and other events into the village calendar.
