About Mitchell
Mitchell is a Scotts Bluff County city that appeared in 1900 when the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad reached this point on its westward run. The name came from nearby Fort Mitchell, tying the town’s railroad beginning to an older military post on the Nebraska plains. The Scotts Bluff County Fairgrounds sit just west of town and bring the county’s annual fair into Mitchell’s calendar. With Scottsbluff nearby, Mitchell is a Nebraska railroad town that grew beside a fort’s name and still hosts the county fair.
