Mongo, IN

Located in northeast Indiana's LaGrange County, the quiet community of Mongo was originally settled in the 1840s as Mongoquinong before locals shortened the name. Much of the town's early history centers on the Olde Store, built in 1832 as one of the very first commercial hubs in the area. Over the decades, the historic building has served as everything from a trading post and post office to an informal community courthouse, grounding the town in its frontier roots.

Today, life around Mongo moves to the rhythm of the Pigeon River. Trading Post Outfitters has welcomed paddlers and campers to the area since 1971, guiding canoe and kayak trips along miles of quiet waterway. With the riverside campground, the revived Mongo General Store, and thousands of surrounding acres in the Pigeon River Fish and Wildlife Area, it is a peaceful spot where residents and visitors spend warm months out on the water.
