Monon, IN

Monon grew around a railroad crossing in White County, where the New Albany and Salem line met the Indianapolis, Delphi and Chicago line. Those routes became the Monon Route, known as the Hoosier Line, and gave the town a place in Indiana passenger and freight history for more than a century. The old rail story remains visible in the Monon Commercial Historic District, where local preservation efforts keep downtown's railroad-era buildings in the picture. North White schools occupy several blocks along Broadway, and the Monon Food Fest brings vendors and a car show to town on the first Saturday in June. US 421 runs through the town, linking this former railroad junction to Lafayette and communities north.
