About Montauk

Montauk is a hamlet and census-designated place at the eastern tip of Long Island. Hither Hills State Park marks part of its western edge, while the Atlantic, bays, lighthouse, fishing fleet, beaches, and summer visitors define much of the place. Montauk is known for having one of New York's largest commercial fishing fleets, which keeps it from feeling like only a resort town. It has a windswept, end-of-the-road quality: touristy in season, but still tied to water, weather, and working docks.
