About Montclair

Lake Montclair is the organizing feature of the planned community at the center of this Prince William County census-designated place. Created by damming Powell's Creek, the 108-acre lake is encircled by a neighborhood established in 1969 and now comprising roughly 3,800 homes. The wider Montclair CDP counted 22,279 residents in the 2020 census, up from 19,570 in 2010. That distinction matters because the property owners association's amenities serve its member community rather than every household inside the statistical boundary. Residents use recreation passes to enter Beaver Landing, Dolphin, and West beaches. Designated swimming areas are staffed with lifeguards during beach season, boats must be registered, and gasoline-powered motors are prohibited. Dolphin Beach combines a fishing pier and amphitheater with a playground, pavilion, basketball hoops, and volleyball court; West Beach provides the boat ramp and storage racks.

Association events use those shared spaces for activities such as a cardboard-boat regatta, beach yoga, summer movies, and an Independence Day celebration. Montclair Library supplies a public counterpart to the resident-only lake facilities. Opened in 2016, the 21,000-square-foot county branch has a 100-seat community room, four group-study rooms, a separate study room, children's area, public computers, a gaming lounge, and a stone terrace suited to outdoor programs. Beside it stands the restored nineteenth-century Barnes House, which the county identifies as part of Prince William's African American heritage. Transit options reflect Montclair's position in the outer Washington region. Under schedules effective in 2025 and 2026, OmniRide runs weekday express routes from neighborhood stops to the Pentagon and central Washington, while Route 51 links Lake Montclair with Dumfries and Triangle on both weekdays and weekends.
