Monticello is a city and the county seat of Wayne County, Kentucky, situated along Elk Creek near Lake Cumberland. Established in 1800 and named for Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate, the community—self-proclaimed as the Houseboat Capital of the World—had a population of 5,753 at the 2020 census and is served by Wayne County Schools locally.
