About Montmorenci
Montmorenci is an unincorporated census-designated place in Shelby Township, Tippecanoe County, Indiana. The 2020 census counted 173 residents. Older maps sometimes spell the name Montmorency or Montmorencie. Montmorenci is part of the Lafayette, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. A brick school was built in 1913 at a cost of $40,000. By 1923, this school housed classes from grades 1 to 12, and all other schools in the immediate district closed. That mix gives Montmorenci a clear local shape within Indiana, with older layers still visible in current places. The local scoop is a place whose streets, landmarks, and institutions keep its earlier story close to the present. An old variant name of the community was called Bringham's Grove. A post office was established under the name Bringham's Grove in 1846, and was renamed to Montmorenci in 1853. Montmorenci has an elevation of 699 feet.
