Monument is a town north of Colorado Springs, set along the Front Range near Monument Hill and the Palmer Divide. Its first homesteaders arrived in 1865, and settlement increased when the railroad reached the area. The town sits near mountain foothills, open space, and landmarks such as Bald Mountain, giving it a high-country feel while still being part of the Colorado Springs commute shed. Monument has grown quickly, but it still carries traces of a small railroad and foothills town.
