About Monument

Monument is a Logan County census-designated place along U.S. 40 west of Oakley. The settlement began as Monument Station, a stop for the overland stage and travelers moving west through the Fort Wallace region; later maps place U.S. 40 and the Union Pacific line through the area. Kansas transportation records still identify U.S. 40 as a statewide east-west route, while Logan County's county seat remains Oakley. Monument's setting joins a stage-era name to a modern highway corridor.
