Moose Pass, AK

Moose Pass is a quiet mountain community set along Upper Trail Lake on the Kenai Peninsula, about thirty miles north of Seward. Surrounded by the Chugach National Forest, it originally grew as a supply stop along the historic Iditarod Trail during the gold rush era. Today, it is home to a few hundred year-round residents who appreciate clean mountain air, lake views, and a relaxed pace. The town even owes its quirky name to an old frontier tale about a mail carrier whose dog sled team was blocked by a stubborn moose.

Life in Moose Pass centers heavily around the outdoors. Trails like Johnson Pass, kayaking on the lake, and winter backcountry skiing are right outside your door. While a local general store, small school, and seasonal lodges handle daily basics, residents make the drive to Seward or Anchorage for larger shopping trips and services.
