About Morenci
Morenci is Lenawee County's southernmost city, pressed right against Ohio at Michigan's lower edge. The settlement began in the 1830s, then got a bigger jolt when the Chicago and Canada Southern Railway opened a line through town to Fayette, Ohio, in 1872. Morenci grew from a village into a city in 1934, and the old railroad story still shows up in its downtown photographs and depot history. It is southeast Michigan in a border-town shape, with the state line doing half the introducing.
