About Morgantown
Morgantown is Butler County’s home rule-class city and county seat, sitting on a bluff above the Green River. The settlement began as Funkhouser Hill before the new county selected the site for its seat in 1811; later locks and dams on the Green and Barren rivers brought more river traffic through the county. Charles Black City Park hosts the Green River Catfish Festival each July, a tradition dating to 1980, and the river remains part of the town’s recreation map. Morgantown is a Kentucky county seat with a bluff-top courthouse town, a river history, and a summer festival built around catfish.
