Morley, MI

Morley is a Mecosta County village on the line between Aetna and Deerfield townships, 18 miles south of Big Rapids and seven miles north of Howard City. The 2020 census counted 517 residents. The Little Muskegon River runs through the southeast side of the village, where it widens into Morley Pond. That water gives the village a natural center, while the county-seat road north and the highway south keep Morley tied to the rest of western Michigan.

Morley’s local calendar leans into the pond, with the village’s “Celebration on the Pond” giving the waterfront a regular community moment. Village Hall, parks, and township boundaries fill out the practical map around it. Morley is small, but it has an easy-to-picture shape: river and pond at one edge, two townships meeting through the streets, and Big Rapids close enough to serve as the county reference point. That shape makes the water part of how residents describe the village. The pond is the landmark around which the recreation story gathers.
