Moro, OR

Moro is Sherman County's seat in north-central Oregon, where the 2020 census counted 367 residents. The city was selected as the county seat in 1892 and incorporated in 1899, placing the courthouse at the center of a wheat-growing region. The Columbia Southern Railroad reached Moro in 1898, turning the city into a shipping point for wheat and livestock moving toward national and international markets.

The 1899 courthouse remains one of Moro's defining buildings, and the Sherman County Historical Museum keeps the surrounding county's agricultural and rural history close to town. Moro lies on the high plateau south of the Columbia River, a landscape of wheat fields, wide horizons, and strong wind. The city also houses the Columbia Basin Agricultural Research Center, established by Oregon Agricultural College in 1909.
