About Morris
Morris is a small Ripley County settlement in Adams Township, first known as Springdale. German Catholic families began arriving around 1840, looking for farmland and a place where they could build a parish life close to home. When the village was platted and renamed Morris in the 1850s, the community already had the ingredients of a rural town: farms, a church, school, and roads connecting it to Batesville and surrounding counties.

St. Anthony Church keeps that German Catholic history visible, with parish records and local memory reaching back to the first families. Parish grounds and cemetery markers preserve family names from the settlement's first decades. Today Morris still works as a farm-country crossroads, where church life, school traffic, older homes, and county roads shape the daily rhythm. Batesville supplies larger shopping, jobs, and medical services, but Morris keeps a distinct name and a strong sense of its own beginning. The place feels small in scale and long in memory, with the parish at the center of both.
