About Morristown
Morristown is a Rice County city on the south bank of the Cannon River, where the river's water power drew founder Jonathan Morris and son Walter to build a sawmill. The town was platted in 1855 and named for Walter Morris. An 1860s grist mill and a one-room schoolhouse preserve the local industrial story, while Minnesota Highway 60 handles the main road in. Morristown is a southern Minnesota river town whose history starts with a mill site and still circles back to the water.
