Moulton, TX

Moulton is a Lavaca County town where State Highway 95 meets Farm Roads 532 and 1680 in South Central Texas. The first settlement began two miles northwest in the mid-1850s, then shifted toward the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railroad station after the line arrived in 1887. Czech and German families helped shape the later town, joining a farm economy built on cotton, livestock, gins, and gristmills. Moulton sits between the East and West Forks of the Lavaca River, with a slight rise carrying the town above the surrounding streams.

Education is one of Moulton's strongest local threads. The Sam and Will Moore Institute, built in 1900-1901, still houses Moulton High School, and its bell once served as the town's fire alarm. The Moulton Eagle has recorded community life since 1900, while City Hall occupies a former 1920 bank with its old vaults still in use for city records. Moulton remains an agricultural and shipping center with a railroad town's layout, a school building that doubles as a landmark, and a South Texas history written in farms, churches, businesses, and family settlement.
