Mount Holly Springs, PA

Mount Holly Springs is a Cumberland County borough at the northern foot of South Mountain, 25 miles north of Gettysburg. The 2020 census counted 1,995 residents. Mountain Creek runs down through the borough from the mountain gap, fed by the springs that gave Mount Holly its name, and the water once powered paper mills and other industry. The town was laid out in 1815 and later became a resort stop, with Mount Holly Park drawing visitors by trolley in the early twentieth century. The old industrial and resort layers still sit close together: creek, mills, library, houses, and the mountain road out of town.

The Amelia S. Givin Free Library gives the borough a memorable civic building, while nearby Michaux State Forest, South Mountain, and Mountain Creek provide the larger outdoor map. Carlisle supplies many regional errands, and the borough’s streets hold the everyday mix of homes, small businesses, local government, and school connections through the Carlisle Area School District. Mount Holly Springs is not just a mountain gap or a former amusement park. It is a small Pennsylvania borough shaped by water: springs brought the name, Mountain Creek carried the work, and the same creek still runs through the center.
