About Mount Union
Mount Union is a Huntingdon County borough on the Juniata River whose identity was built from ganister rock, coal, railroads, and refractory brick. Three major plants—General Refractories, United States Refractories, and Harbison-Walker—once made the borough a major center for heat-resistant materials. The Mount Union Historic District preserves the older streets and buildings, while the river remains the town’s long eastern edge. Mount Union is central Pennsylvania in an industrial form: raw material in the hills, brick in the works, and the Juniata below.
