Mountain Mesa, CA

Mountain Mesa is a Kern County census-designated place in the upper Kern River Valley, west of South Lake at about 2,640 feet. The community sits between the Sierra foothills and the reservoir country around Lake Isabella, with Highway 178 carrying traffic through the valley. Its map is made of hillside homes, dry slopes, stands of oak and pine, and roads leading toward Lake Isabella, Kernville, and the Sequoia National Forest.

South Lake gives the nearby landscape its clearest landmark, while the Kern River and surrounding public lands shape recreation and seasonal travel. Residents rely on Kern Valley communities for schools, groceries, medical care, and other regular needs, so Mountain Mesa’s daily geography extends beyond its CDP boundary.
